Edward M. Corrado is a librarian, administrator, academic, and information technology expert. He is currently the Associate University Librarian at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California.
As a librarian he has worked to provide discovery, access, and preservation information — including research data, special collections and archival material, and traditionally library resources. He has also helped faculty, students, and others make use of information in their scholarship and other endeavors. This experience has enabled him to work with people of different needs, backgrounds, and educational levels. Corrado has hands-on experience as a systems librarian as well as with metadata, reference, collection development, and has been the administrative head of information technology departments and special collections.
As an administrator, Corrado has been a member of academic library executive teams. He has led project teams, assigned priorities, and has had the opportunity to create policies and procedures for his areas of responsibility. He also helped set strategic directions of the libraries he has worked in and assisted in forming organizational wide policies and procedures. Being an administrator also has provided Corrado with experience working on contracts and budgeting.
As an academic, Corrado is inquisitive person who enjoys learning and researching new issues. Corrado is co-author of the book Digital Preservation for Libraries, Archives and Museums (2nd edition was published in 2017) and co-edited Getting Started with Cloud Computing. He has published over 30 articles and book chapters (including in peer-reviewed journals, professional magazines, and conference proceedings) and has presented over 100 times at academic conferences in 24 states (plus DC) and 17 countries. His research interests include various topics such as digital preservation, cloud computing, open source software, emerging technologies in libraries, and the role of libraries in government 2.0.
Lastly, he is a technologist with approximately twenty-five years of experience. This includes over twenty years of experience managing Integrated Library Systems (ILSs), digital asset management systems, digital preservation systems, and other library technology. He also has twenty years of experience administering various desktop and server operating systems and programming and maintaining library Web sites (with a focus on user centered design). Additionally Corrado has experience with Amazon Web Services and other cloud computing platforms as well as technology budgeting and planning experience.
